Part of that depends on the wheels/axles on the freight cars. It seems like the modern cars with American Models type trucks roll easiest, postwar link coupler trucks pull harder, and postwar knuckle coupler trucks with sintered iron side frames pull the hardest. I do not know where Lionel modern trucks fall into this.
Ok, lets use postwar knuckle coupler type of cars. I would like to know how many a MTH F3s S gauge can pull? 10, 15, 20 ? 20, 30 ? I like long trains ! Art
I should mention that the weight of the consist is a limiting factor when going around the standard curve of Gilbert track. I have often tested locomotives that can pull more on a straight but on a curve the string will come off the track.
Do these come with a closed front pilot that you can install instead of having the coupler on the front (protruding out into the next zip code)? Thanks.

The closed door insert for the "passenger pilot" is included.
Thanks Rusty. I used to enjoy seeing the CNJ units in Jim Thorpe, PA. Tempting, except I've already had enough SHS F's that I've sold some off and converted an ATSF freight AB to TMCC/Legacy with sounds. To take on these w/o any desire to invest in DCS isn't (yet) terribly compelling.
