MTH Transfer diesel sluggish in reverse Why?

My 20-2302-1 MTH Pennsylvania transfer diesel runs ok in forward but seem sluggish and requires higher voltage in reverse. I cleaned and oiled and greased all the wheels and gears. Any thoughts? The engine is from 2001. Do the motors age in any way with time?

May be binding in reverse especially if Flywheel moves down in reverse rotation and touches motor can. Take shell off and watch what happens. G
