What are your experiences with MTH under warranty service?
I swung by the MTH service department last Friday to drop off a loco. I spoke with one of the techs and he stated that it is about a 10 week turnaround time for repairs. I fell on the floor due to the fact that I just needed a new rear headlight and didn't want to wait 10 weeks. He laughed and said that should take 10 minutes for that repair. I have used the in warranty repair in the past and have been very happy with the experience. Good luck!
A few years ago I sent in a Imperial Big Boy a month before Christmas.
I got it back in time for Christmas !!!
It seems like they slow down over the summer and fall, then get backed up right after Christmas and it takes a while to work off the load.
Timing is the Spice of Life.
I've only had to use the warranty once. About five years ago I had to send back an A-A set of Alco PAs. Called and got my return #, she said it would be about an eight week wait. I shipped it to them and in less than three weeks got it back. They had to replace a power truck assembly (motor and everything). I don't recall what time of year it was.
I sent in my Southern Kanawha in the middle of January of this year. The engine was malfunctioning on curve sections by the cab light turning off briefly and then speeding up rapidly. I was running it with DCS. I thought it was a bad wireless drawbar, but the problem was a lose wire to the connection to the drawbar causing a short. I got it back in 4 weeks including the shipping time. I thought that was reasonable considering it being right after the holidays. MTH sent my engine back in a new MTH shipping box. I was pleased with their repair work.
I had 2 warranty repairs last year. The first was a DOA that had a short in it, took 3 weeks to turn around in June. The second was a failed tach reader in November and they turned it around in 4 days.
I sent in a TIU for repairs, it took a total of three weeks, including shipping both ways. Not quite as fast as Lionel, but certainly a decent turn-around.
