Hello Everyone I searched this topic first and went through the Lionel parts list also before posting this. I ran my 6-18056 Hudson w/ Vandy tender after having not done so in months. I run it on TMCC with a cab1. I am not getting the chuff sounds when under way.

I get start-up sounds, whistle and bell, coupler everything but chuff while underway. I checked the railsounds switch in the tender and all was good.

I did not see a part on the Lionel listing for a chuff switch, cherry switch or anything that looked remotely related. I also did the engine reset with the run/ program switch and code 740 but it did not bring it back.

My question is...is the chuff generated by switch/cam/ action, or purely a product of the railsounds board. Where should I be looking?

Thanks for any help you can give on this,

John

Since the other sounds are command controlled, this isn't an IR tether issue, clearly there is communication there.

Look for the chuff switch.  The Lionel Parts Breakdown 6-18056 doesn't list a chuff switch, it's part of a wiring harness.

Look at the linkage for the smoke unit piston, it's likely the chuff switch is not working correctly.
