Everybody should have a helper like you have. Nice layout too.
Now that's great! Pets make the best companions!
Jake is a cool dude. I have Ralph help me. If I am doing something on the bench and something falls to the floor, Ralph always finds it for me. He loves to watch trains run. Thanks for posting pictures of Jake. I loved them.

Marty, Ralph looks like the king in that picture! Looks good!
You guys are killing me !! I lost my kitty, Jeb, a year ago. Miss him. My layout was his domain, too.
I have a new helper.....wife found him while out picking blue berries. Red Butler is still in the sleep most of the time stage but was able to jump up on my desk and flip my Gothic church onto the floor.....busting it up........
Nutmeg drew blood the first time she saw a train run. Now that I'm building a new layout in my new home, I'll try to involve her in the building process and see if she warms up to it. She is always skittish the first time she experiences anything new, so maybe she could eventually be a good helper.
Just means I'll need to clean more often.
I have Shadow (and that she is ) on my old layout she like to go into the tunnel and come out the other end. She did a good job of keeping cobwebs and anything else clean under there . Sne's never far from me no mater where I'am at in the house. Trains she just looks at them like what the, they don't really phase her.

Jim...
Thought for the day...
What would 'kill' me would be to attend one of the summer pet adoption events sponsored by the local SPCA....and seeing them take a couple felines or pooches BACK at the end of the day.
Not good.
Lounging around the layout.....I'm sure there's a fuzzy, furry-purry feline who'd love the opportunity.

Not in a position right now to take on the responsibilities of a new kitten. Maybe some day. I don't go near pet adoptions and pet stores with little ones. In the past 40+ years I have had two wonderful cats so it is a long term deal.
My wife and I have two cats; her's (Chloe) is laid back and easy going and is the Diva of the house. Mine (Skitz) has two speeds; "Asleep" and "Run 8". She entertains me to no end and is always a constant source of amusement to us both.
Chloe LOVES O scale trains. While our Christmas village is set up, she'll actually go to the transformers, tap them, and loudly meow wanting you to turn the trains on for her. She'll then happily, peacefully, sit or lay near a curve on the track and watch them contently for hours. For a cat that is otherwise pretty skittish, the smoke, sounds, and size don't phase her; she loves them.
Skits (AKA "Catzilla"), is a whole different story. She is such a prankster (or as my wife says "She's SO your cat!!"), will wait until I go to bed and pick up figures, accessories, trees, cars, etc. and place them in little piles at night. What's even funnier is the figures often get placed on the tracks; it's hysterical. She has to get into EVERY. SINGLE. BOX. (She's SUCH a cat) and is all about mischief, but, I wouldn't trade either of them for the world. At times, we've caught Skitz watching the trains too, but with her it's different; she's plotting and scheming!
