bbsfdl60, beautiful layout, and some of my favorite roads! I grew up in Hoboken, in the '50's (my dad was a Hoboken fireman), and modeled that same time period in HO. Some EL, Erie, and Lackawanna units now visit my generic 5 x 9 three-rail layout most of the time. (I still have my HO, but backdated the layout to about 1953). I run the 3 rail layout more than the HO! I live in Greentown, and visit Scranton on a regular basis.

I joined this forum a short time ago, and since then I have met some great individuals.  I would like to thank two ,GGG has been instrumental in helping me to become a MTH Tech and the other Len Allman has shared some of his collection with me. Thank you to GGG I look forward to your friendship and Len for the great pieces that I have added to my layout.  This is a great resource for us O gaugers and am glad to be a part of it.    Here are some shots of the new additions on my layout

I model EL as well and Len was instrumental in helping me track down the last few pieces I was looking for. Terrific guy! The Erie and Lackawanna hoppers from the new Lionel catalog look great.

I have the railking NYO&W mountain locosound.I have mine repainted for the seaboard air line.It now number 264 sal.The railroad that runs through my hometown now(CSX).I am suprised how much it can pull.I have had it pull a freight train 30 to 43 boxcars.I can,t say much for its sound though.

The pics keep getting better and better!

Great layout. I love the telephone poles and the burned down roundhouse. A very original idea I might add. The freight yard looks great too.

A long freight coming in after picking up from Portland, the train pulled by  DL&W RS-3 912 , DL&W B-unit 802 and an Erie GP-7.  It is seen coming into the yard on this Sunday afternoon.

 

 

 

 

 

And one last shot of the day was a EL passenger train with vintage DL&W coaches, two F units still in DL&W colors and an Erie B unit.  It is quite a sight for this imaginative railfan.

 

This weekend I made a lot of progress on the city scene.  Got the overall look figured out, wired in the traffic signal and wired lights to the some of the houses.   This shows the overall look of the town.  There are still a lot of pieces left to put in.  In the foreground near the coal and miner statue will go the Plasticville town hall (cityhall) the area to the right will go a baseball field complete with lights and fence.  Also a park or playground will go in the area as well.  I need to put up street lights, poles, accent details, and foliage.  A laborious job will be the firescene, since I want it to be more realistic.  The hose that MTH supplies to go with the accessory would be approx.4 inches to the mini smoke eater.  That is a supply hose size, attack lines are about 1/3/4 " so I need to build a manifold for that hose to go into and then output to size appropriate hose.  Specifically I will choose a 2 1/2" line going up the ladder to a ladder pipe. But I need to figure how to do it and how to make a small nozzle. 

 

Great layout, pics and video. I model, in the loosest sense of the word, Lackawanna. I see we have many identical rolling stock. 

Somehow, I managed to have missed this thread until today; I guess I have not been lurking around the forum as much as I used to . . .

 

You certainly are doing a great job with your layout! I like the details and overall presentation. I also appreciate your videos; they are easy to watch and well done.

 

I may have missed it, but have you posted a track diagram of the layout?

Just completed converting an Atlas C-425 with Lionel Trainmaster to MTH Proto 2.  A few details and this is now my favorite engine!  I used the sound file for the ALCO  S-2 Switcher, and it really has a great idle.   I have been doing upgrades and repairs for so many fellow railroaders recently , it is nice to take the time to put my skills to work for my own railroad.

Some progress the past few days, I have applied a great deal of landscaping to the city scene, the one I am most proud of, if you can tell, is the fire scene.  I was able to find pretty accurate string from a fabric store that became the hoses.  They were bright white, but a bath in the furnace waste water bucket made them look perfect. Being a fireman myself I tried to make it look as authentic a scene as possible.  There are some minor details left but the vast majority is done.  If you can see, I used round string for the hand lines that are being used, I used a flat string for the hose line that is just been laid and being stretched.  I painted the front door black and added a spare plasticville door to the side, and a hose appears to go into the building.  It is more realistic then a fire with both doors in tact and closed!

A video of my new Atlas C-425 Erie Lackawanna unit with MTH PS2. This view is from the front.  This video takes a short trip around the main line.  I am playing with a new camera , so more to come,

 

This is the same unit but with a view from a car behind it.  humor me as the engine goes in the hidden track , and for some reason becomes out of focus just before it emerges on the other side of the tunnel

It is a MTH Railking Pacific.  All of my engines are MTH PS2, minus the C-425 that is a MTH PS2 conversion from an Atlas TMCC

Very nice job on your layout.  Even though I have lived my whole life in Detroit, I have always had an interest in the Erie and Lackawanna RR.  Why?  My favorite Lionel engine growing up in the postwar era was the FA ALCO Erie diesiel AA we had on our train table.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed, I was not around when these great engines were roaming the rails, so I create my own examples...I am humbled by the praise, I am not a master builder like many of the layouts I have seen, but it is as good as I can do.  And I am happy with the results so far.
