When I set up this engine initially about this time last year I know for certain that I turned off the smoke unit, fully counter clockwise as indicated in the manual. The engine did not produce smoke last year.
This year as I was getting the kinks out of the same engine with a few laps around the track I notice an odor which I took to be some overheated lubricant of some sort.
Upon closer examination the engine's smoke unit was operating. Since I had not put any smoke fluid in the engine I wondered how this is possible. Regardless, I then rotated the dial fully the other direction and while diminished in volume, the smoke unit still was producing smoke.
I have not run the engine since yesterday and it has not burst into flames; yet.
I am perplexed to say the least since the smoke unit appears to be producing smoke regardless of the setting w/o any smoke fluid. Other than the obvious wish not to set off smoke detectors, I don't want to burn up the smoke unit either.
Any ideas?
