I was attracted to Menards latest offers of the power house and flatcar with cable reels.
I have been looking for material to model Nassau Smelting; a Western Electric subsidiary in Staten Island , NY. Back in the day when I worked for NY Tel in the central Office, we would send all our scarp wire, relays, etc. to Nassau Smelting. When we ordered solder, wire, etc. much of it came from there. The power house looked like a good match for the main building, and the flats with cable reels made a nice addition. Question for Mark, The Menards Train Guy; will the wire reels be available separately for loading dock material? I must have read the measurements wrong because the building and adjacent tracks won't fit in the target space. So now I have a power house.
My new plan is to marry the power house to my 97 coal elevator. The down chute of the elevator will come through the tunnel wall at the smokestack end and pass through into the building. I'll cut a hole under the building to collect the coal. I'll have to repurpose the tunnel by making it a loading dock from the other end. If I had the room I'd put in an aerial conveyor across tracks or a road. Anyone else remember the Con ED power station on the East River with the coal elevator to offload barges and the conveyor across the East River drive (FDR)?
Back to Menards. The flats with cable reels are really nice; but where are the brake wheels?
