These events cost tons of money. $200 seems quite fair.
I totally understand the cost of such events. At the same time, the will be many people who just want to see 611 and are on a budget where $200 is a bit much for the pocket book.
The weekend that we will be in the area, the events scheduled are all high ticket items. I don’t want to drive 611. I don’t want to sit in the jump seat. I just want to get a chance to see her and take photos. I want my daughter to see her. I’m not paying several hundred dollars to do something I have no desire to do, and, most of all, something my family can’t enjoy together.
I’m not asking much. I would simply like the railroad to have and/or confirm that there will be moments where 611 and 475 are around for general photos and access. I have tried contacting the railroad with no response. I honestly have gotten more info from this thread.
Well, by the looks of the schedule (from the weekend I'm going, the 12-14th), the 475 doesn't seem to be doing anything while the 611 is in her whistle blow session, so *maybe* there will be an opportunity to see the two side-by-side then (plus a little Hancock 3 Chime of course).
This is a rare fund-raising event, people just watching and taking pictures would just get in the road.
I got 4 tickets for $60.00 in the coach for the Saturday in September got an email today that they have added extra rides and several Fridays and the tickets are around $25 for the President Car and $15 in coach. Blow the whistle for $5 the email said they would be on sale this Friday. Check the Strasburg Site.

I will be there the weekend of Oct 19/20. The website only shows the in-cab experiences. It would be great if they added rides on those weekends. I have no problem paying for a full ride behind 611 for the family. Though I don’t see them running full trains that weekend behind 611.
I really don’t mean to sound cheap to anyone here on the forum. I don’t want to pay for an event the weekend I will be there where I am the only one getting close to the loco. My daughter (6 years old) loves 611. This will be our first time seeing her. And I am not leaving her and my wife out of the picture while I have fun.
Carl: Call them I did and got put on a standby list and 2 days later got an emial lusting a bunch of opens that the web site showed sold out. A week later I got the emial I mentioned in my earlier post.

Thanks Rick. Appreciate the insight.

Thank you Carl. I stated similar thoughts on the first page of this thread, which I started, and several members jumped down my throat. I too have no desire to ride in a coach behind 611. I prefer to watch as it goes by, if that is at all possible. I equate a coach ride to onboard cameras on model railways. They just don't excite me. I would prefer to see the trains going by, not watching an endless view of the track.

While I understand the question, I think it's only fair to look at it from the point of the business. Let's say you're running a restaurant that sells hamburgers. Are you going to put out an ad that promotes the product you're selling and what it costs or are you going to advertise that persons walking by the windows will be able to see what one of your hamburgers looks like?
A steam locomotive, especially one like the 611, is a very large object and will be difficult to hide from view when it's running down the rails in a public space. Your question is reasonable, but not one I'd expect a business trying to sell its product to answer. Asking it here, and not whining about it, is more likely to get reasonable answers.
I hope you and your daughter get the pictures you're looking forward to.
Hey Carl....pls allow my 2 cents.......when I get in a similar conundrum, the best advice is "**** the torpedoes, go for it"!
A nice day with your daughter, THERE IS a possibility of getting the picture of the two locos side by side..........if not there might be photo ops you NEVER previously thought of, that you will capture..........but not if you don't go. FWIW.....pack your guys' own lunch with water for a beverage which is something I sometimes forget when attending events............sure way to avoid the lines.
I just ordered 4 tickets to ride in an open air coach, and 2 whistle blow tickets. Final cost, $73. Very reasonable.
Some of you asked about NKP 765 and the Cuyahoga Valley Railroad.
765 will be there on September 20-22 and 27-29. Details HERE.
Doesn’t 765 run to the southern end of the line in Canton anymore? They had a tour of the line one year from the northernmost station to Canton and return. I would love to see 765 visit PA again, maybe the RBMN or Steamtown. Ohio is a bit far for us. I am going to ride behind 611 again at Strasburg. I rode behind it before in Virginia.

No. The line from Akron south to Canton is all out of service.
