About 2 weeks ago I started this N&W dynamometer car. It took me 3 days just to draw it on the styrene before cutting started. It will be a challenge but I am looking forward to it. This car is loaded with rivets! More photos will be posted as progress proceeds.
On the another desk in my shop is the beginnings of a Huntingdon & Broad Top Mountain passenger car. More on that one later. And on the third and last desk are 6 URR cabs.

Do you laminate two sheets of styrene together to get the relief of the window and door frames?

WOW. This is going to look incredible. Can't wait to see the finished car. 
If you need any more details I will gladly run to the VTM and get pictures or measurements. I have to be in Roanoke a week from today at the latest. Also the NWHS has lots of info on the dynamometer car. I still have access to the HO model that was produced.

I got the basic body together today.
The roof was finished today. It is actually just beginning but the hardest part is done. Lots of details now!

Whew! I am so glad that day and half of drilling holes is over! The N&W believed if one rivet was good, 6 would be better
. It is starting to take
shape now, the cupola are being added to roof now too.

Car is painted and ready for decals but it won't get them. this car has several flaws that are unacceptable to me it goes to the scrap heap. I have started 3 more and chaulked this one up to the learning curve.

Heartbreaking to see the hours and hours you've spent working on this, only to start over.

I applaud your efforts Malcolm, it takes a lot of patience and skill to do what you are doing. Sorry that you have to scrap the one but if you're not happy with it then you made the right decision. keep up the great work.
You can use the flawed car as a storage shed that is heavily weathered and has boarded-up windows.
Or you could put heavy weathering on it, board it up and say it's at the Virginia Transportation Museum............

Are there any progress photos to add on the new batch? It was exciting to see this come together.
As a matter I have rivet decals on all four of them. The decals did not arrive until last Thursday. I really like these as they do not require those time consuming holes to be drilled. I painted them with MOW gray so they would bond to the surface better.
Outstanding work. Forgive my poor eyesight, but what were the "defects" in the first one?
Those of us who are classed as "RTR O Gauge" are ranked thus for a reason. We stand in awe of accomplishments such as your's. It is always amazing to me that anyone could undertake such a project, put that kind of craftsmanship into it, then scrap it thinking it didn't meet his standards.
I can't get two decals to line up with each other in the right location.

Progress report : I have 4 of the dyno cars to this stage. I like the decal rivets. Roof construction starts tomorrow.
