NASG Website Updated

Thanks for posting the link, Rusty.

The new site does look much better. However, there are numerous errors in the posted "history" under American Flyer of American Flyer as a brand of toy trains over the years, the history of the A. C. Gilbert Co., and the subsequent history of Lionel (the train maker) in the latter part of the 20th century. A few value judgements are included that might be honestly debated. The comment regarding M.T.H. is increditable.

Like the new OGR Forum, I'm sure the new NASG site has some birthing pains, seeing it just went up.

I noticed a couple of questionable things, too.  But, I'll have to leave it for the Flyer-centric part of the membership to offer corrections.  I don't have a good handle on Flyer in general, other than what I own.

What comment regarding MTH?  I thought MTH wasn't going to be involved in S scale?

EDIT: Never mind!  Read the mistake as I was taking a closer look at the site.

I'll admit, I only quickly scanned the new NASG site.  I don't doubt there are other errors.  I'm pretty sure the webmaster is willing to make corrections.

So, did anybody email the NASG webmaster about the MTH misstatement, or is this something we'll just all snicker about over here? 

I don't use my work email for such things, I wouldn't be able send one until tonight.

Still, the new NASG site is a vast improvement over the old one, which was clumsy to navigate and had little eye appeal.

For those of us who are into "scale" S, and not AF, a quick glance shows it to be a terrific site; I'll take anything new in "S".......

Yes, S "scale" very well represented, which is great.

American Flyer and related suppliers, however, are virtually not mentioned. For example, under 'Manufacturers', Lionel-AF is not listed, nor is a link provided. TMCC/Legacy, as related to AF and hi-rail S gauge, and the related suppliers/modifiers are not listed. These aspects may not be everyone's focus of activity, but they are an very important segment of the overall S-gauge hobby. These omissions were a weakness of the old site, as well, and have been previously pointed out diplomatically in the past.

Well, I sent the NASG webmaster an email about the MTH thing and also mentioned about Lionel not being listed in the manufacturers section for Engines, Rolling Stock and Track.

The NASG has a shiny brand new webmaster, so hopefully he'll be more responsive.  The new NASG website's only a day old, so I think we should give him a chance.

I probably should have mentioned our happy little band here in OGRland for discussion board links, but didn't think of it.  I've referenced us several times in the past on the S Scale Yahoo board, though.  But, I'll admit by my own observation, some of my fellow scalers have blinders on when it comes to anything outside of "true" S Scale.

OK gang, I just checked the NASG AF page this morning.  The line about MTH has been replaced with this:

"In 1995 the new Lionel, LLC (which is an entirely different corporation from the original Lionel company, and included the famed rock star Neil Young) bought the toy train product line from General Mills and continues to produce some American Flyer products, both re-issues and newly-tooled products. The latest products are actually new-tooling products that are closer to scale models."

And Lionel's been added to the list of S Gauge train and track manufacturers.
