Atlas has footprint dimensions of the area required for using their track, but I haven't seen anything like them for using Ross track.

Does anyone know the length and width of the total Wye assembly (see diagram) using Ross 072 curves, a 072 Wye, and left and right hand 072 switches?

(I "borrowed" this diagram from someones previous post and changed it to show what I'm looking for):

I believe the Ross track is measured from the center rail, so a O-72 curve probably measures 75" across to the outside of the ties.  Here is a RR-Track depiction of the Ross O-72 wye.  The squares are 12" on a side.  It takes 4 10" straights and one 3" straight (actually 2.7") to connect the wye at the bottom.

Bob,

Looking at the diagram, the vertical wye is centered at 1/2 of Dimension B, also the outside curved rails of the switch and wye are 036 or 36 inches, if you extend a vertical line upward from the switch end this line will intersect the horizontal line from the wye end, this is the center of the 36in arc, Dimension A should be 36 inches, Dimension B should be 36inches +36 inches + the width of the track on the straight leg of the wye.

This is how I interpret this track assembly, also Ross had PDF drawings of the switches, wye and track on their website.

I know the 072 left/right switches are 14.5" long, Jim's 72" is very close.

My current Wye uses 2 left hand switches and 1 right hand switch:

I'll check it against the dimensions Jim provided to see if I should bother getting an 072 Wye or keep the switches like I have them.  The right hand switch is giving me problems and probably needs replacing (too long a story to post tonight).

Although...there's a bit of straight on both ends of the left/right switches, I don't think the 072 Wye has any straight but if so, maybe just a little and not as much as the 2 switches.

This is true for Ross. The turnout of the switch and wye is the same length as the curve sectional piece.  (The line segment from the end of the center rail to the opposite end of the center rail) Depends on the track manufacturer and sometimes the switch.

The little bit of straight that differs is the thru, in this case, the part that makes the gap between the two switches.

gargraves makes their 072 wood sectional 30° and Ross 22.5°. Therefore, the GG 072 switch is shorter.

The 42" for A is too long. besides, I like the angle of your 3 switch wye.
