I just got a great deal on a "New England Patriots" RailKing 2-8-0 with PS2. I want to repaint it to use on the club layout, but it's got the goofy New England Patriots sound set. I understand that there's a loader I can download, but I'm completely lost on how I interface my PC with the locomotive. Also, I don't have DCS at home, so if I need the DCS remote or the TIU I'm going to have to do it at the club layout, where I won't have an internet connection. Is there a resource that will walk me through this, or can someone explain it to me?

Decide on which file you want, it's a hot in the dark unless you've heard an engine you want yours to sound like.
I have downloaded at least 60-70 sound files to sort through and find likely candidates for various upgrades.
Thanks for the replies!
Goofey Patriots??? I would help but not now. Only joking. I have just about every sound file MTH has used. Figure what you want and I can send a file to someone who will help you.

My opinions of the Patriots aside, any locomotive that plays clips of an announcer calling a game winning field goal instead of crew talk is most assuredy GOOFY. Crew talk is goofy enough to start with. This is ridiculous.
My voice is on the Red Sox train and not the Pats. Anyone can download sound files. All those team trains are aimed at a bit of fun and not realism. You can download a sound file anywhere you have a connection then save it on your computer. You do not need a connection to download the file you have saved on your computer to your engine.
If this train is ridiculous, hopefully you must have got a great buy on it. What do you have in mind for a file? Remember, this is a 3 volt board but it is an early 1meg board. The 2meg board size did not come out until 2007. You still have many to choose from.
Anyone know if there's a way to download a file to your computer and listen to it on the computer, before loading into the engine? It's cumbersome to have to load individual files into the engine just to find out it's not what you were looking for.
Todd,
This particular 3V board has 2 MB of memory and I think the PS3 files are larger and couldn't seem to upload them.
You cannot load a PS3 sound file into a PS2 engine.
Thanks Barry that is good to know.

Barry - I've not tried this but what you wrote looks like a typo - JZ

Barry,
Perhaps you meant to say "you cannot load a PS3 file into a PS2 locomotive..."
Best,

Yeah, something like that...
Thanks!
Wowak, in answer to your basic question:
You do not use internet access during the sound file upload to the loco. Download the sound file from the MTH website to the computer before starting.
You do need a TIU. If it's a Rev L with a USB port, you need a USB cable. If not a Rev L, you need a serial cable. If your computer doesn't have a serial port, you need a USB>serial conversion cable. Can be obtained at Radio Shack.
The computer must have the DCS Consumer Loader program, version 2.34. Can be downloaded from MTH web site
If there are other DCS operators at your club, one might be willing to do the job for you at the club. If he/she can bring a laptop, bring the sound file you have selected, on a flash drive.
