Looking for ideas for a layout I am working on.
The layout is totally fantasy, lots of movie references, action hero's and whatnot. We are working on a Star Wars area and are trying to figure out how to simulate a laser beam.
Any ideas?

Electro luminescent wire drawn tight. Get the thinnest they have and play with it.
PS, it makes very good neon lights if you're patient... which I'm NOT!
Hey Dave, great to see you back posting!!
Thanks!
Yes, its been a while!

Yes, that would work well. Gunrunnerjohn covered the use of that wire well in his thread in the O-27 and Hi-Rail forum here, in a posting about improving the Phantom. You ought to be able to find it easily, its recent and still active.
Thanks!

Yes, it's been about six years now. Hope everything is OK with your family. Welcome back

EL Wire would probably do the trick, though even the thinnest I've found isn't that thin. OTOH, it's available in all different colors, so you could have the two different colored laser beams of the good guys and the bad guys.
Fiber optic cable? Illuminate it from one end via an LED or a small laser diode.
One of my cowboy shooting amigos outlined the yokes, pocket flaps, and cuffs on his B western shirt, put his initials on the back flashing on and off, and a few other touches using that wire. Used several colors to complete it. Had the power pack and controller in the pocket.
Wasn't much in daylight but after dark he lit up like the Las Vegas Strip.
EL Wire is the perfect solution.

I'd like to see that.

I'll be having lunch with him on Thursday and I'll ask if he has some pics to share.
1/16" acrylic rod with a narrow focus LED in the hand. Shrink tube to hold it.
One vendor just to look at the product or web search it.

If you have even a little smoke present, a laser pointer or focused bright light would show as a beam. But the El wire (thicker), or fiber optic might be easier work on small items (dimmer from side than the tip, use a mirror like cap on the end to reflect back and keep more light coming out the sides.) .
The Fiber optics light light could be housed at either end of the shot, if size permits. Or even both ends.
E.g. If your gun is small and shoots a control panel, put the light or power in the control panel not at the gun.
For more effect, a random flasher to go along can be made once you decide on a light source.
An led flashing in or next to the source, or at the target as damage, could really add effect. Either gun or target can be a smoke source too
Thanks for all the great suggestions!
