I bought an older sw1500 that originally had the 5 volt board system in it. The board must have went bad at some time or another, so somebody took everything out and made it a non powered unit. I have a couple of bigger diesels with 3 volt systems and I'm trying to make this run again. I was wondering if somebody on here might have a parts diagram for an sw1500 with the 3 volt board, as I'm having trouble trying to fit everything in there. The only parts diagrams I can find on mth's website for sw1500 engines are for the older 5 volt system. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Well, if the shell won't clear the motor, then the electronics are useless. I took the motors and electronics out of a larger diesel, and I think I can get everything else to clear. But the problem with the flywheel on the front motor rubbing the inside of the hood is enough to cause major problems. It would need 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch for the shell to sit down all the way so I could put the screws in it.....................................

OK, but this isn't an electronics issue.  If you specified a motor fit issue in the first place, we'd be farther along.

One solution is to find the correct sized motor and all will be well. You can almost surely order one from MTH parts.

If the tach is on the rear motor, you could remove the flywheel from the front motor and cut down the shaft.  You could also find a different thinner flywheel for the front motor and just cut the shaft down.

The front motor has the striped flywheel, and it's the one that's rubbing. It also has a much thinner flywheel than the rear motor.  Just from what little knowledge that I have from looking at different parts diagrams, I can't seem to find a thin flywheel motor other than the one I'm trying to use. That's the reason I was looking for the above mentioned parts diagram. The motor I have seems to be the right one.......

Like I said and then Chuck said, get the right motor.

Reason For Asking:  I am trying to order an MTH Railking SW1500 (or similar 12" long O ga. MTH switcher) via Bill Henning.  I would like to know if you can:
(1) add the DCC/DCS switch that MTH used to include (so I can  run engine on DCC), and
(2) add a flashing strobe light on top of the cab roof.  I believe Bill said that you have done both of these things in the past.   Thanks.  - Jim Ingram

If you have the right motor, it wouldn't be rubbing on the top of the cab, so it's a bit hard to believe something's not amiss there.

I have the 30-2215 UP SW1500 complete less a bad 5V Board also.  I can sell this if you want it as motors and all the harness for the set up.  You just need to add the 5V connectors to your 3V board.  And change the speaker to a 4 ohm for proper sound level.  I can send a speaker too if you do not have one.  E-mail in profile.  Or if you just want the motors can do that too.  G
