I was up in PA this past week to visit relatives and spread my late father’s ashes.  I had some spare time Tuesday and decided to make a quick trip to Horseshoe Curve.

While in the Altoona area I Googled for train stores and discovered Neely’s Train Shop.  Stopped in on my way out of Altoona and found a real gem!

Neely’s is an “old school” train store of the type those of us active in the hobby for a decade or more fondly remember.  I found a good mix of new product - primarily Lionel - as well as an abundance of NOS trains.  The store also seemed to have a pretty good stock of Postwar parts.

The lady working the store when I was in was friendly and talkative and the two store cats didn’t appear to know what a stranger is.

All in all; Neely’s was a great find and I would highly recommend a visit if you are in the Altoona area.

And yes; I did find a couple things I “had to have” which led to an interesting conversation with a TSA officer and fellow O gauger at the Harrisburg airport yesterday morning.  Apparently us O gauge hobbyists are everywhere. 😉

Ditto on this as well. In addition, there is a new Wyndham Hotel a mere 200’ walk from Neely’s. We stayed there during Easter break this past March. You could clearly see the NS mainline from our room. In addition, a fifteen minute walk took us past the UTLX tank car shop and a good portion of the Juniata shop! The interesting thing about the transfer table is it’s double tracked so they can do run arounds with the trackmobile. Finally, after you drive past the NS shops there is a great Hobby shop with mostly HO, but some O and a lot of scenery supplies. Forgot the name though. Only problem was the weather didn’t cooperate!7AC0916C-F754-4CC2-BAC6-4018BE9137B1
