It seems that Atlas has come out with some new trucks that have the following characteristics:

Thinner scale die-cast side frames

Scale width between the side frames

Drop-in replacement for all Atlas O rolling stock

In a number of variations:

50   Ton Barber-Bettendorf

70   Ton Roller Bearing

100 Ton Roller Bearing

Roller Bearing Caboose

Commonwealth Express (One I am particularly interested in.)

I know modelers have especially been wanting the scale width between side frames.  I haven't been able to find whether or not Atlas is now using these trucks with current production.

Does anyone know if these trucks are used on current 2 rail production?  Have they been using these trucks for any recent runs?

Any other thoughts?

Thanks

My only gripe with the Atlas trucks are the fat wheels they have on these things!  Plus, why did they choose nickel silver plated brass wheels over steel wheels / axles with the proper wheel profile?  Just my opinion here but I think steel wheels would look a heck of a lot better than nickel silver plating, even though the new trucks come somewhat pre-blackened.  I paint my existing Atlas cars trucks, and it greatly helps the look, but on my non Atlas cars, I use Jerry Snows' trucks as the scale profile wheels look much better.  I will be interest to see the new Atlas trucks in person, but from the pictures posted, the truck frames look too narrow........ Come on Atlas....if Jerry Snow could produce a scale roller bearing truck 15 years ago, certainly you can follow suit with todays' manufacturing processes.
