After a couple of freight cars, Dapol is about to launch their first engine (January 2015), the class A1/A1x nicknamed "Terriers".

50 units were built between 1872 and 1880 and were in operation till 1964, and about a dozen survive.

From the pre-production pictures I think Dapol has hit a homerun with their first 0 scale engine (in true 1/435 scale).

Some details are still missing, but a superb rendition of the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway livery.

And some pics of undecorated model...also with details parts missing

Dapol Terrier 4

Dapol Terrier 3

They will be offered in 6 differents liveries and in "conventional" (DCC ready) version and DCC and Sound equiped version.

Price wise their MSRP is 200 GBP for the DCC ready version and 400 GBP for the DCC/ sound fitted version.

Street price are at about 170 GBP and 335 GBP respectively and lucky us living outside the EU...we can deduct 20% for the VAT

And looking forward, the next project from Dapol is the Diesel shunter class 08 with a projected release date of Easter 2015

So far only cad rendering are available

"Built between 1872 & 1880, and in use until 1964".....
Or to put it another way, NASA was launching the Gemini Space program whilst here in the UK the Railways were still doing things the 19th Century way...

Apparently these Terrier models have quite a lot of minor inaccuracies - or not so minor if you're obsessive about such things but for the price - especially compared to usual British O scale prices - most who want one will probably be happy.
As the CAD drawing of the Class 08 diesel shunter (switcher) stands the roof curve profile is wrong; hopefully it will be corrected before production of the model, but Dapol unfortunately does not have a good record of accuracy in O scale. A shame as much of their N & OO stuff is superb.

I have some Dapol equipment in N scale. As mentioned above by SundayShunter, they are well executed models. I'm particularly impressed by the Class 86 electric and Class 67 diesel which are truly superb. I certainly hope the same standard of quality will carry over to the O scale Terrier.

Another suggestion to stateside hobbyists wishing to purchase Dapol products would be Hattons in Liverpool. I have been an on-line customer of Hattons for several years now and the process of ordering and receiving models is as easy as purchasing something from any US based dealer. There will be the occasional backup at customs but it never seems to cause more than a delay of a few days.

I concur that Hattons of Liverpool & Tower of Blackpool are your best options for shipping to the USA, they know what they're doing.
... and don't mention the 20% UK "Value Added Tax" we suffer from here!!! We get clobbered for it importing stuff from your side of The Pond!! US O Scale prices are much cheaper than UK models, but sometimes with VAT & Shipping costs the price of, say, an Atlas freight car can be doubled.
