So I have just received a Lionel Legacy SD40 Locomotive, first legacy purchase actually. However whenever I pulled it out of the box, it appears to have a set of scale couplers on each end. If i'm correct they are Kadee O scale couplers. The box did not come with any regular O gauge couplers. Is it even possible to change the coupler back to a regular o gauge coupler, if so where can I get the coupler to replace it?

Who did you "receive" it from? Surely not purchased new from Lionel, as Lionel does NOT install Kadee O Scale couplers.

Go to lionelsupport.com click on replacement parts and enter your train number from the box, if the parts diagram comes up, find the coupler and its number and click add then click on cart up top.
If the search comes back with nothing, enter sd40 and scroll down the list until you find yours then click on view parts.

Why don't you start with the actual Lionel product number from the box? That helps us help you.
I have to agree with HW. To the best of my knowledge, Lionel does not sell engines with Kaydee couplers. Every Lionel TMCC/Legacy engine I have ever purchased (and there have been a few ) comes with the traditional lobster claw couplers, which on Legacy diesels are electro-couplers, so just getting replacement parts may not be a simple fix. In the last few year, Lionel has been including adapters to add Kaydees, but not the couplers themselves. Seems like someone has done a swap on your engine.
