This may have been brought up already but I was browsing through the new Lionel catalog and noticed the new FT units listed. The picture shows what appears to be fan-driven smoke. But the description says nothing about smoke. Does anyone know if indeed these are going to have smoke? I know years ago they listed smoke on starter set diesels and it was a mistake.
It appears these versions of the FT are the basic LionChief engines, not LionChief Plus 2. If you look at the logos by the catalog ads, you'll see they are just the LionChief logos, not the logos for LionChief Plus 2. Thus, they don't have things like speed control or smoke (on the diesels).
Some previous versions of the FT were LionChief Plus models, and had these features, but not these FTs. Obviously Lionel just used existing illustrations they had of the FTs, without bothering to remove the smoke from them. Note also the catalog shows the price as $299.99. The LionChief Plus 2 diesels shown several pages earlier are priced at $399.99.
On page 65 of the catalog, you can view the list of various LionChief, LionChief Plus and LionChief Plus 2.0 features. You'll see on this features list, for the plain LionChief, for smoke, it says "Steam Only."
