Hello OGR Members,
I obtained 4 NEW Lionel 072 Remote / Command switches for my layout to allow crossover between Outer and Inner loops on the WEST end of my layout (See attached picture). I already have well working crossover of 4 switches on the EAST side of my layout.
These 4 NEW switches all worked well when installed on the layout using track power and with manual controls, allowing me also to program each switch with a TMCC-ID.
I then installed the four WEST switches with manual controls removed and fixed 14v-18v voltage attached from an Accessory transformer. This is my normal mode for the preceding 22 switches I have had running for 18 months.
- Three of the four NEW switches on the WEST side of the layout – shown in picture circled in blue – light up and will switch from through to out to through with no problem. Switching can be done with both CAB II and with iPad.
- However, the one WEST switch – shown in picture circled in red – will light but will reliably NOT SWITCH … that is, I get a very slow switch about 10% of the time, but 90% of the time I get no switching. It seems like for some reason the CABII or iPad signals to switch are not getting acted upon by this switch ...
I am hoping with this email to get suggestions what to look into, before giving up and submitting to an Lionel RA request. I have considered:
- De-install the switch and re-do the wiring into the AUX-IN and GND slots for Accessory transformer power to insure stable insertion of wire into switch slots.
- I wonder about Earth Ground due to physical near presence of other switches and closeness of track loops … BUT if you look at my layout on the opposite EAST side where I have another crossover there I have no switching problems. What do you think?
- I cannot tell if the radio or antennae inside this NEW switch is faulty or pointed in wrong direction – thoughts?
- When I installed the wires into AUX-IN and GND I noticed that the two little brass pieces (inside the GND slot) were not protruding very clearly, seeming recessed farther back, and I wonder if my GND wire is not making solid contact? However the lights stayed on for this switch without dimming or blinking while testing
Any root cause suggestions for me to try or investigate would be greatly appreciated?
Thanks in advance for reading this post.
