No you should not. All the Legacy units are shipped with the software installed which is current v1.4 if I remember right. You will have to load engines into the remote or set them up manually in the remote.

Correct, I was referring to the legacy module for the locomotive.

Good. Just remember you will have to assign an engine ID to the locomotive through the remote and then load the module for that engine into the remote.

When I received my second command base I had to load the operating software.  If you do not get anything on the screen just put the correct blue module in, even if the software is loaded you will not hurt anything.
