I recently picked up my Nassau Lionel Operating Engineers LIRR Camelback locomotive from Nassau Hobbies and have tried it out. I'm running it conventionally as I do not have command control--either TMCC/LEGACY or DCS--on my little 4 x 8 layout. The engine runs and smokes well, including whistle steam, and sounds great, too.

However, when I switch directions, its sounds stop, rather than being maintained during the direction change. Is this normal on a Lionel engine, or is there supposed to be a capacitor in the circuit to keep the sound system operating during the power interruption? (Most of my engines are made by MTH; they keep their sounds operating, including the bell ringing, while direction is being changed. So I don't know if Lionel's newer engines can't/don't do this. [They certainly should if they don't.]) I verified that the slide switch is set properly for conventional operation, not Bluetooth.

If any of you that have LEGACY engines, and particularly this Camelback engine or one of its twins with a different road name, could let me know if this is normal or not, or if perhaps I'm doing something wrong, I'd appreciate it. I'd hate to have to send it to Lionel for repair.

Thank you all for your help.

Chris

The sound board still has a connector for the battery but the harness and battery clip are no longer provided. Gotta save those pennies don’t you know.

Apparently the new ones no longer even have the connector. It’s inexcusable that the sound can’t sustain for even a few seconds.

See this thread.
