New Lionel UP 2-8-0

  Nice looking engine, good luck with it. The whistle steam effect is a great Legacy feature. Nice to see Lionel putting it in some "smaller" steam engines again. How about a few pictures of the tender and a video too.

other than the boards, are you happy with it?

I found this image and the boards look pretty big on it too.  Maybe the toy is closer to the real thing than you thought.

I have one of the "old" (SP - both were Harriman roads at one time) ones - TMCC, no Odyssey. Great loco. The new one is tempting, and I have no problem with the unlit boards - some of these model steamers are just too "lit up" for me anyway! 

Looks great - enjoy it.

I hope not.....my wallet got hammered with the heavy mike, f12e,and the j3a. All offered in consecutive catalogs.

I ended up getting the Milwaukee Road version. I wanted the UP version but I knew they were  going to be cheep on not light the number boards. Also the Vandy tender is all wrong. They used the Southern Pacific style tender which is a completely different look than the actual UP tender in the picture. You can see the difference in them. Also they forgot the "deck braces" that go to the front pilot deck.

Those would actually be pilot deck braces.

Only way I'd be in trouble is if they do a ATSF one.  Otherwise I'm good with my SP one.

Unfortunately, I knew going into this that the tender was wrong for the UP.  So, I'll add it to my list of corrections.  A saw, some brass tube, and a little time can make the correct version.

The pilot deck bracing is an easy fix.

Look forward to receiving mine.

After seeing one of these run and trainworlds coupon for the july4 sale i am considering it ...

Lucky they didn't do this tender...

I would be first in line if they got a Northern Pacific version right... but alas.... I have to tell myself...  its just a toy.

I would consider buying that if Lionel did a Northern Pacific version, only thing is... The headlight has to be in the correct position, and the cowcatcher has to be correct. I can probably let got of where the walkways on the sides of the boiler are positioned. Also if they use a tender that is close to the original design.
