New MTH 2-Rail 4-8-4 GN gets power and and lights but won't move either way. Have use Lionel ZW with bridge rectifier for 2-Rail operations for several years; Sunset, Precision Scale, All Nation, and Atlas. GN S2 2-Rail is MTH new old stock. Seller did not have knowledge of model railroading so no presale test was done. It is obvious that it was new in original package. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Buzz Wagand

Buzz , always need the number of your engine so that someone might help. A video could also be valuable.
If you have the original manual you might try to unlock the direction per the manual ...if ...it is locked in neutral.
Check the manual for the location of the various slide-switches, in order to make sure the model is properly set-up for 2-Rail DC operation, i.e. NOT DCS command control.
If it is a PS 3.0 model it would have a 2 rail/3 rail switch and a DCS/DCC switch. I don't think it matters what position the DCS/DCC switch is in if you are running in conventional mode with straight DC but it might make a difference. There isn't a "DC" switch on any of MTH 2 rail locomotives. The MTH electronics can sense conventional power automatically and should work whether you apply straight DC or AC. I would try applying conventional DC power first in DCS mode and if that doesn't work I would try it in DCC mode. I think if the 2 rail/3 rail switch were in the 3 rail position and you are trying to run it in a 2 rail environment it would short out. In either case make sure these switches are in the correct positions.
PS 2.0 models have a 2 rail/3 rail switch and a polarity switch. If it is a PS 2.0 model the polarity switch could be in the wrong position. Try switching the polarity switch to the other side and apply power.
When you turn the power off do the lights shut off immediately? Or do they take about 10 seconds to go off? Do you get any sounds from the locomotive? Just wondering if the battery is okay.
If none of this helps then hopefully the DCS experts will chime in here.
