Im from New Jersey (hard to tell, huh?) And what does New Jersey have a lot of.....SAND. Even today, the Winchestern and Western shipps out covered hopper cars of sand to the rest of the country. Way back when, Sand was shipped more locally in open top cars...gondolas or hopper cars.
We are doing a SPecial Run of Raritan River and PRSL 2 bay sand hoppers. Since both of these railroads purchased freight cars from the Pennsy, we have modeled hopper cars from both roads based on the PRR GLc fishbelly 2 bay hopper car. The PRSL actually had ex-PRR GLc hoppers. The Raritan river had ex-PRR GRa gondolas for sand. The GLc hoppers are a little stretch, but a nice RR car for sand service, The Raritan River also had ex-PRR covered hoppers for engine sand service, We will be doing a run of them later using the Atlas ACF 2 bay hopper, which is the closest thing to the actual cars thats available.
Here the artwork from MTH...
6 road numbers of each will be made. Here;s the link to pre-order...
