Some of you may have ordered Lionel's J3a Hudson #5413. Described as having a 1946 appearance!

5413 Lionel

In May 1945, Locomotive #5413 was reported scrapped following this fatal wreck in Rochester, NY.

Not quite the 1946 appearance Lionel had in mind.

Very Interesting. I found a document on the internet that states the 5413 did receive a PT tender (PT-4). The builder sometimes but not always put a tender plate on the PT tenders that would read T-XXXX but it is unknown if the tender assigned to 5413 had one of these tender plates. The document says that the 5413 was "damaged" on 05/02/45 and the PT tender was reassigned to 5333 on 09/46.  Under retired it has a question mark. You can read it here on page 19:

So what really happened to the 5413? Was she scrapped or rebuilt?

This would make for an incredible diorama on a layout if someone had a loco that didn't run, if it was done well. If I modelled a class I standard gauge railroad*, I'd for sure have modelled a scene just like this, with crowds standing around.

*The RR I model is a narrow gauge line which never put a loco on the ground like this...
