Newbie here - TMCC with Legacy Command

Is the brake slider all the way in the up position?

Yes, Checked the brake slider and made sure it was all the way up.

Try sliding brake slider down and back up when engine is running, it might be in last command if you stopped it with brake.

Did you set the speed limit to zero?

Ran through the speed limit settings. Still nothing.

I really appreciate all your help. Just kind of frustrating for me. I love the looks of this locomotive set. May have to take a run to my dealer over the weekend and see if he may be able to diagnose the problem.

Will it run off of a transformer with the command base unplugged from the wall?

Place both units on the track in proper position. Address TR9. That is the factory default for the pair set-up as an MU (lashup).

Separately, the powered unit default eng id is 1 and the non-powered id is 2.

Starting on p.55 of the Legacy manual, it describes how to enter the options. The control option for engine(s) should be cab-1, not TMCC.

if you reset the id#s you have to build the MU (lash-up) with those id's. p.18 of engine manual

be sure to follow the steps exactly.

Dave: Won't run with Base disconnected and unplugged. I had expected it to run in conventional mode too.

Moonman: Tried all of that last evening. Still won't run.

Also, not an expert with it, does the 990 require two digits for everything?

As in engine two  is "Eng" then "2" on a Cab-1 and is "Eng" then "02" on a Cab-2?

if the legacy base is unplugged and the engine will not move when handle on transformer is moved then it is an engine issue.

Just a thought - lift the battery cap off the shell and check the battery wire. Sometimes the wire for the 9 volt battery (battery is sometimes very close to the motor) tends to wrap around the motor stopping it from working.

When you say TMCC reset - do you mean the instructions on page 17 of the manual?

First off, Thank you everyone for the tips and hints. I just got back from my local shop. Seems, I may have fried the control circuit during a derailment. Oh DUH!!!!

I really appreciate every tip you folks gave me. Helps me better understand this whole Legacy, TMCC and Cab-1 operation.

Now, in the shop for repairs. Looks like I will be running some conventional units for a while until I get my E-6 back. Not the end of the world. Just a part of the learning process.

My Rock Island E-6 is back from the shop. Had to have some connections to the board fixed. Now runs beautifully. Was the result of one of my derailments. So the lesson has been learned. Now a lot more cautious with the power on the track. Everything up to snuff now.

Love the look of this beauty.
