What I would like most, that I could use for my Christmas tree layout, is a TMCC Whitcomb 30-Ton switcher to pull a variety of the disconnect cars.

Exactly... In fact several years ago (before the official BTO started), one of the Vol 2 catalogs was MOSTLY just recatalog'd items. Very much a yawner as I recall, since it was based largely on stuff Lionel still had in its warehouse and was trying to regenerate interest in those items by re-cataloging them. Not sure how successful that was -- aside from giving us a heads up on items that would soon be on dealer blowouts. 
Shortly thereafter, Lionel also started to offer weathered steam locomotives in Vol 2 catalogs -- again presumably re-purposing existing unsold inventory by giving items a new SKU with a new road number and Harry Heike's excellent weathering process.
In recent years, Lionel has been moving toward newer items being featured in the Vol 2 catalog. But this is the first Vol 2 catalog being billed as containing all new SKU's. We shall see what that really entails.

On the Lionel PRR T1, Lionel did issue a scale version in an unskirted version - I have it. It came out at about the same time that MTH came out with theirs. If I recall properly, MTH switched their model to the two prototypes around the time of the announcement in order to provide some differentiation between the models. It hasn't been seen since, would be nice to get a new version with the bells and whistles (literally in this case)

Realistically, whatever comes out in the new catalog will most likely have the majority of it being older toolings if any new ones at all. I think in one of the videos I saw with Mike(MTH), he even said that sometimes it isn't easy to just make a new one. With the great variety of engines out there, there of course are the beautify oddballs that we all want made that we haven't seen and we are still waiting for. I'm sure the great experts could come up with a list far longer than your arm.
Regardless of what comes out, law of averages will have more people grumbling than excited over.
I wonder if the 86' Hi-Cube Boxcars will be in the DT&I and ICG colors and graphics.

Yes, I have it too.
As mentioned elsewhere, I think, in this long thread, this T-1 was one of the "lawsuit engines", to the best of my knowledge, and the pirated tooling designs (from MTH by Lionel's builder) may require a complete mechanical do-over by Lionel to bring out the T-1 again. I don't know, of course, but it is strange that this very noteworthy loco has yet to see the light of day with Legacy in it - heck, it never even had Odyssey; TMCC/RS only.
Same for the Allegheny and N&W 2-6-6-4, I do believe.
Just a guess, but the 80 Tonner WON'T be in the new catalog,

OK, but now, Ed, do you have any guesses as to what WILL be in new catalog? About 20 different guesses would be good. Or maybe you had a vision while you were, say, enjoying your fourth beer somewhere, and you could share that. And remember, there's no rule that says you can't be clairvoyant. And as a backup, there's the 1st Amendment - there can be no law abridging the right of free speech.
So open up. You'll feel better.

"Sounds of gunfire," if it is historical or military related, I will have my troops in battle formation and ready to pre-order on the 29th.
It really does not matter when the catalog arrives, as long as there is a great selection of trains for Us to review. Yes, to simply sit down in a nice comfortable Lazy Boy recliner, glass of iced tea, Privacy, and yes, a new Lionel Catalog..It simply does not get better than that. The memories of our past comes to view as we turn page by page....Now, although we are a bit older, (lots older), we still become like kids when these new catalogs arrive at our dealer, or our front door. As long as we get them fairly soon, that's ok. Thanks for the update.

The O scale A.A.R. 50' double-door boxcar with END DOORS has not been produced in any Grand Trunk Western paint schemes.
Did they finally get the GTW scheme on the End Doors 50' double-door boxcar?

The 29th is simply unacceptable. I have been counting down to the 17th, every minute is painful. I walk around counting the minutes to the 17th. NOW you say its the 29th!? 12 more days! AAARRRGGG!

I, and I'm sure there are others, have been in the process of making decisions about buying some items, and timing is such that those decisions must be made before the catalog is now unveiled. I just don't get the anxiety over any O-gauge/scale catalog. It is not as if when you get the catalog and you order and receive your wish within 2 weeks.
It all about waiting on pins and needles only to discover what you might want; then will need to wait 12 months or more to receive your wish (if you can afford it).
You're actually better off if the catalog is not offering anything you really want. Your wait is over.

We're all capable of drawing our own conclusions. But quite honestly, when you combine the fact that we were first told this was a catalog of "all new" offerings AND then absolutely nothing -- zip, zilch, ZERO -- dribbled out of the LCCA convention preview, I'm concluding this catalog is all a big much-to-do-about-nothing. I guess we won't know if that's an accurate conclusion until later this month. To some degree, I've already lost interest in this new catalog. Think about it... not only did the LCCA folks "not leak" any product info out to the masses, they didn't even say they were EXCITED by what they did see. Very interesting that there's no buzz to speak of.
As for purchasing decisions, etc..... I hear ya. Lionel knows all to well by now that any new offerings are competing directly with current inventories sitting in the marketplace. To some degree, they're competing with themselves. But that shouldn't be news to them. And it certainly hasn't kept them from tagging new products with premium prices. So if anybody has $500 or $1,000 burning a hole in their pocket now, it's probably better to grab some great deals now vs. waiting to target those funds for a pre-order out of the new catalog only to wait Lord-knows-how-long before any newer stuff actually gets delivered.

Interesting comment about Lionel compeating with its self when it comes to current inventory. I'm holding off on a purchase until I know if there's anything in the next catalog I may want. Only so much money to go around

You're right, David - it's very weird that not one single attendee has commented. Nothing, as you note, not even to say "there's a lot of great stuff in the new catalog," or "the presentation was very interesting." A real lively bunch. 
Ironic that the only two attendees who even have acknowledged being there said they didn't bother to listen to the presentation. This must have been some convention.

The Lionel GTW 50' double-door box car did not have end doors and the end door box cars are in a different series.
The GTW 591000 and 592000 series had the double-door box cars with END DOORS.

Lionel is a business. They depend on the good will of their dealers. Having customers coming in asking about products they haven't yet informed their dealers about is not considerate to or a a good use of time for their dealers. Product announcements are performed in a very orderly way by most companies (Apple and Ford are examples) for exactly this reason.
A few consumers who are clamoring to hear about the catalog a few weeks early are not, understandably, a major concern to how Lionel's business is run. The fact that a hundred or two hundred maximum LCCA members were given some advance information does not represent a betrayal of trust, nor does it likely yield any insight into the quality or innovation of the actual catalog contents.
I'm looking forward to the catalog, as I always do, but am somewhat baffled by agony the waiting seems to be causing a few people. We're talking days to a few weeks here.

Highly unlikely in costly plastic tooling, given that only 26 units were made by Alco between 1966 and 1968. SP had 10 of them.
Decades ago, it was made in HO scale by Mehano (imported by several manufacturers in plastic) and Overland and Key (brass), but never in any other scale that I can recall.
3rd Rail might be open to the idea in brass if the interest was established.

What does this mean? York isn't until October 19. The catalog will be released on Aug. 29. Dealers will have already distributed catalog copies to customers well before the York show.

That is a dig on the York boxcars they made in April - 50, first come first serve. They were sold out within a few minutes of York opening on Thursday afternoon.
