What does this mean? York isn't until October 19. The catalog will be released on Aug. 29. Dealers will have already distributed catalog copies to customers well before the York show.
Something of a wise-*** comment. We all know what it's about.
Sometime soon Lionel has to finally catalog NORFOLK & WESTERN and SOUTHERN 86' Hi-Cube Boxcars in the original paint schemes from the late 1960's and early 1970's. They have to be made in the coming year.

Hey Ray, which one?

I would buy 3 each(since they only do 3 road #s) of the 8-door and 4-door 86' boxcars in SOUTHERN with the as-built paint schemes shown in the SOU freight car color guide.
Using the SOU freight car color guide…there are prototype cars that closely match Lionel's tooling…
The 8-door can be found on page 60, middle of page. Series 42350-42377
The 4-door can be found on page 61, bottom of page. Series 42946-42999
I do not have stencil diagrams for these. Hopefully the SRHA can help with that.
If Lionel does these, hopefully they can choose random numbers within the series and not sequential numbering.

That is a dig on the York boxcars they made in April - 50, first come first serve. They were sold out within a few minutes of York opening on Thursday afternoon.
Oh. Missed that. Was 1400 miles away and missed the memo. Sometimes getting news out of York is about like getting it out of a LCCA convention.
Well, maybe not that bad.

FYI, the catalog will not be out until the end of the month. August 29th I believe is the current release date. Not the 17th.
I guess I read that post about it on Notch 6 wrong.

I could of sworn I heard it on one of Notch 6 pod cast that it was the 17th? Am I dreaming?

Well it could have changed. Dave didn't state this but I believe I heard the 17th as well. No biggie, I can wait.
It was originally the 17th. Pushed to 29th as not all art files have been completed. With as many new skus as this catalog will have, it is a lot of artwork.
Good Day Dave,
Thanks for the update!
Regards,
Swafford
Well, I can wait.
Contacted Lionel, received the following:
Arthur,
The Signature Vol. 2 catalog should be available in late August or early September.
Thank you,
Katie

Not Yet... This one is bigger... I need more time... Also too busy with horses and work to get too far on it. Hopefully in one more year!

Even the Second Death Star required Lord Vader to add Motivation.
Do you guys at Lionel need motivation? I can fly down there and sit on your desks with only 5 minute bathroom passes until the art is finished...
Don't Tempt Me... You don't know the Power of the Dark Side...

Well, that is at least something. I wonder what the time frame for pre-ordering will be? What is it, month and a half just about(I forget)?
One thing I was told this weekend at the Greenberg show by my local dealer was that we(the public) know more than the Lionel dealers. I would think that they should have better communication with them and slightly less better communication with us. You know, sort of that inside access type stuff you would think that they would have. I suppose though like with any industry, sometimes they like to keep people in the dark(someone turn on the engine's headlight).
For the time being, I already have just about everything I could want to pre-order, so it's going to have to be something really cool for me to get excited about that whole process again. Unless Lionel is coming out with an Amtrak Genesis or like a CTA 'L' set or something, I'm sure the catalog will be kind of a yawn for me. So I can wait. Always fun looking through them though even if I don't find anything I'll actually buy.
I'll actually be surprised if much new stuff is offered, as it's always seemed like that all comes with the first catalog of the year. Most of the time....the SD60E's and SD40's I think were exceptions.

Hi Dave - do you have an update on the availability of the logging disconnect cars? Last I heard there was no tentative shipping date on them.
Thanks.
It will get here when it gets here!

Can't seem to find a date for the Christmas Disconnect Cars either - be a bummer if they missed delivery before Christmas. Does the Lionel Website no longer provide this information or just select items are showing delivery dates?

Well, this was the official response I got to my question about cutoff for the next catalog(which they said should be released tomorrow).
"David,
The cutoff date will be by the end of September. The catalogue should be up this week on Tuesday.
Thank You,

I wonder if the pre order cutoff date is purposely done prior to york to avoid the competition taking away from pre-orders.

Sounds about right.
