Last night I attempted to polish some rusty nickel end caps for air tanks. I used a dremel and (numerous) brass brushes. Although the rust came off, the surface of all but one seems pitted and rather dull. I tried using metal polish and 000 steel wool, with minimal improvement. Should I get more aggressive, and use a steel brush, then perhaps buff them? Would you all perhaps have any other suggestions? Or are they perhaps too pitted and hopeless? Oddly, one of the caps did come out smooth and shiny--I guess it was in better condition to begin with.
