Railroading at night has always had an attraction for me, probably going back to childhood when I'd look out the window of the Columbian or Liberty Limited at night in Pittsburgh, seeing the glowing molten steel. so, here's a few shots of night in the yards from my recent PV trip to Montreal.

First, Sunnyside Yard, Long Island.

Next, VIA yards in Montreal. Train was moved into the Montreal Maintenance Centre for servicing.

Bob, this may sound crazy but I always enjoyed switching at night.  We always passed signals by lantern, and it was a show to behold.  It was even better with a cover of snow on the ground: the moonlight sparkled on the ground, the engineer always operated a bit slower for our sake, and the snow muffled the noise of handling cars.
