6-28202 SD 80 the towercom bell and horn have just stopped working. Still have diesel roar and that it. Every now and then I get a ticking noise from speakers. I've tried reprogramming it with code 8. Any other suggestions please.

Does the sound come on before you address the engine? It sounds like you've lost serial data recognition at the audio board.
If you have another TMCC engine, try swapping the sound card into the other engine and see if it works there.
Yes sound does come on as soon as I power up track. I will try the swap tonight and see what I get and let you know. Thank you.
No go. Swapped boards, did a reprogram and no joy.
Well, that's an indication that the serial data is not getting to the sound board. Next step would be to swap the R2LC and see if that cures it.
Ok. But can you find the R2LC boards anymore in the wide world of trains.
I have one R2 board when I install it the engine takes off as soon as I apply power with engine in program mode. Am I to assume that board is trashed?
I have R2LC boards, but first we need to narrow down the suspects. What you describe now is a DCDS failure. If the engine takes off before any control inputs, that's the DCDS as a rule.
I put a R2 board in from another engine and it works as it should.
And the sound is very static and still no horn or crew talk. Just very static engine roar.
Well, you seem to have two problems. My suggestion at this point is to send me the three boards and I'll test them all. I have replacements for all of them, the only exception is the sound chips. However, since you do have some sounds, they are probably fine.
Question: If you use the transformer controls for horn/bell, do you get them? It sounds like the sound board is in conventional mode.
No sir. Not horn or bell in conventional mode.
What boards do I need to send to you sir. And where.
Lyle, send an email to my profile email address and we'll get you set up. I don't publish my personal information in public forums.
