No Legacy

Inspect carefully for cold solder joints on the radio board top, and the joints on the main board. I’ve also breathed life into them with cold solder joints at the two pin antenna connector,…..on one instance, I ran jumper wires from each pin top to the bottom of the main board. Not hard to do, but tedious, and you’ll need really good soldering practices not to make a mess out of it,….that radio board design is pretty awful,….

I've had to use tie downs on a couple of them.  I've also very gently and slightly bent the pins just so it is a bit tighter contact when sitting in its slot.

A couple of well placed zip ties might work.

Thank you all for the replies. I tried the zip tie idea to give the receiver board a better “seat” into the main board. For the moment, it is running Legacy without flaw. Time will tell…..

Maybe a loose pin connection harness. I've ran into that problem.

I've had a few of these with busted pins.  Lionel started soldering them in after a few years, apparently they recognized these were a weak spot.

I had one with broken pins. A lifetime supply of replacement pins can be found on eBay. Not exactly sure what they are called. They are pretty fragile. A bit of downward pressure brought mine to life.

Be somewhat careful soldering the pins, they take more heat than you might imagine to remove the old pins.  It's possible to just solder the broken pins together, but it results in a very weak repair that prone to the solder cracking.

John, that was my fear in doing the repair. The soldering I could probably do. It’s removing the broken pins I wasn’t so sure of. I sent mine to Superwarp seeing he had a desoldering station.
Was wondering if you could heat the solder and push something like an aluminum rod into the hole to push the pin out. The solder shouldn’t stick to it. Wiggle it out and you should be left with somewhat of a hole. One component you usually can push into a puddle of solder and find the hole. Something with 3 to 5 pins such as these. You pretty much need clean holes to work with.

Never tried it with aluminum, but it's an interesting idea.
