My working TIU was packed up for the move in September 2014. The latest version was applied at TrainStock 8 and all went well. I just hooked it up to test a newly acquired engine and can't get any out put  through the TIU.  The diode is lit, there is power on the input but no power on the output. I opened it up thinking that I would find a fuse. That was futile. I just looked through my DCS manual but didn't see anything related to this problem in the troubleshooting section. Help!

It started out as Ver 13A if that matters.

Bob,

If the red LED is lit, make sure that you're using one of the fixed channels. The variable channels won't pass power straight through the TIU unless they've been set to fixed mode.

I opened it up thinking that I would find a fuse. That was futile.

If the TIU hardware is a Rev. I3a, then it most certainly does have fuses. There are 4 fuses, one for each channel. You should check to make sure that they're not blown.

Not good,,,, Do you have power to fixed 1 IN ? Fixed 1 and fixed 2 are straight through connections so unless a fuse is blown the power should be coming out of  both...

You could try fixed 2 , (power  to fixed 2 in and fixed 2 out to the track but.... Fixed 1 also needs to be powered as well to turn the tiu "on" or you can use use an aux power supply..

.  I did have a number of I3As before getting one with a good signals generators.  However it did supply voltage.

Yikes! how could I have missed those fuses? They are all good.

I wasn't on fixed 1, I was on variable but I had the aux plug in.

When I moved it to fixed 1, Everything was normal.

Just for drill I shut the power down, removed the aux power plug from the TIU. The Z-4000 is connected to Fixed 1 in and Fixed 1 out is to the track. When I power up the remote and the Z-4000  is turned up to 18 Volts the engine starts in conventional. The diode is not lit. I shut everything down and reconnected the aux power and it's all good.

Bob,

When using a variable channel, unless you previously set that variable channel to fixed mode, the channel will not pass power unless you first use its assigned TIU Track to roll up power to the channel on the TR screen.

What concerns me is that when you removed the power source from the Aux. Power port and had TIU fixed channel #1connected to the Z4000, the TIU did not get power for itself from fixed channel #1. This leads me to believe that either you still had a plug inserted into the Aux. Power port, or the microswitch in that port had failed to switch the power circuit to fixed channel #1 input.

If there's a plug inserted in the Aux. Power port, even if it's connected to an unpowered transformer or even to no transformer at all, the TIU will seek power for itself only from the Aux. Power port.

Yep pull the jack & try again.

There's the possibility you may have to use an aux  not matter what you do unless you want to ship it for repairs.

Barry,

I removed power from the aux jack by pulling the plug out of that jack.

In that case, the TIU has a defective microswitch at the Aux. Power port. That should be an inexpensive repair.

I'll probably let it be and just use the Aux power option. Thanks for helping me understand the problem, I was afraid that the powering problem was contributing to the output problem; which turned out to be me.
