No.6 or No. 7 Pictures?

Haven't received mine yet but I'm certainly looking forward to it after waiting for two years.  Have they been shipped yet?

Yes they have shipped. Dealers and MTH are showing both versions in stock.

Yes they have shipped. They feature PS2 and are absolutely beautiful! No electronics in the tender, so no tether or strange looking drawbar. I was impressed with the packaging. They are wrapped in a very soft towel and the outside cartons have styrofoam corners so the inner box stays damage-free.

The picture of the #6 in the catalog shows the boiler in Russian iron blue. The picture on mth's website shows it as all black. Anyone see one in person yet? I'm assuming they were produced as all black.

Mike Wolf was explaining the story of the No. 6 MTH version on the TCANETVISION Youtube video and the Boiler is colored a sort of Gunblue.. The original was real Russian Iron..

The one in my showcase looks very black to me. I don't even see a hint of blue. Still, it looks great!

I have had my #6 for a couple of days now. When I first received the engine, I thought there is no doubt but that the boiler is plain black, which would be very disappointing. But after looking closely at the boiler with different types of light reflecting off it (including daylight), and while running it,  I have to  admit it really does have a sort of bluish hue, it's definitely not strictly black. It's also not just painted as stated earlier, but looks like some kind of really nice metal treatment. I'm no expert but it seems that various types of light reflecting off the shiny processed metal seems to bring out different hues or shades of hues in the metal.  Pictures or videos simply cannot do it justice to see the true color of the boiler, like I mentioned it took a couple of days having it in the train room to really see it. In summary, I think the bluish-black boiler and the black engine is really is attractive and now I think I might take the plunge for the matching passenger cars.

Are the couplers standard latch?

MTH just posted a Video of the No. 6 on Youtube today..

The coupler on the tender is a Lionel combination coupler. When you receive the tender new, the coupler has to be attached with a screw that is included in the box. If you want to attach any other type of coupler it would be a simple matter with this screw. The passenger cars have Lionel combination couplers attached.

Are the passenger cars the only cars that really go good with this engine?  How would 200 series cars look?  Does anyone know if the traditional version has the whistle in the tender?

The proper freight cars for a #6 is Lionel's 10-series. I seriously doubt that an original #6 could put more the 3-4 200-series cars.

While I was waiting to receive my new passenger cars, I ran both 200 and 500 cars with the L&T. Although they are from quite different eras, I thought that both series looked proportionately ok with the L&T and the couplers were roughly at the same height for the tender coupler. As MTH mentioned in their news release, there is added weight in the traditional version (not so for the contemporary version)  and it had no trouble pulling 5 or 6 freight cars. There is no whistle in the traditional version, which of course is historically correct.

I think it was posted on another thread about the electronic version not having traction tires. These are now available from LCT as a fix.
