Just ran a Lionel ATSF Northern with smoke unit and whistle steam for the first time in a while and the smoke unit now seems to have an audible whine (kind of like a high pitched whistle), which is particularly noticeable at slow speeds when its chuffing. I don't recall it ever having this problem before, but I haven't run the engine in over a year.
Anyone else encountered this kind of issue? Is there a fix for this short of a new smoke unit? Thanks!

You need to lubricate the original fan motor, or replace with a new one/lubricate it.
Mine was the same. Do what Bruk said. It’s not to hard.

If you're going to the trouble of opening it up, my advice is to install a new motor. Bench test it on 5VDC first and make sure it's quiet. It won't hurt to put a drop of light oil on the ends of the new motor before the install either.
Thanks. I don't think I want to risk opening up such an expensive loco with my limited repair skills. I'll get a pro to do it, and when I do so probably install a new motor.
