Dear Rich, Thank you for letting us know Norm's passing. Patty and I with John Jr and Jennifer Lynne visited his wonderful layout after the Easton EOS Meets and he would let John Jr. (Age 9) run the Reading Crusader, which he superdetailed and I proudly now own- Thanks to you- and operates at the Cherry Valley club. I will remember him fondly each time it travels around the CV.John P.Dunn Sr.
Norm Cole was a real inspiration to me. I had read of his work over the years first with his outside third rail layout of 40 some yars ago in 0 Scale Mag. Then on the 20th or 25th anniversary of that pike OGR covered his RR again after Norm had converted that RR to two rail.

When I first visited his layout in the early nineties I was amazed to see a totally new layout in his 57' long basement!

He related how he had been diagnosed with a terminal condition and wanted to make it easy for his children so he tore down the model RR, fixed up the basement and made final preparations. Wink.

"Well", he says, "my health improved"! So, in his sixties he started over and what you see in the above video was started after many of us would have retired to the Barcalounger, all hand laid track.

He showed me it is never too late to start something great and the value of a ranch house for providing a big basement in a modest dwelling.

Over the years he has always been a very hospitable host ready to share some insights. Thank you Norm. tt
