Just got a new P&WV engine with PS3. Put on track and did engine add which TIU could not find like my PS2, so put engine on isolated track which then the TIU did find.
Started engine, adjusted various volumes and minimized smoke volume, killed cab chatter etc.
Started engine and ran it several times around layout. Next time around it momentarily lost continuity then sat there and shut down. Shut every thing down, moved engine back a ways, started TIU, waited minute for PS3 caps to recharge, pressed start up button, no sound except buzzing noise. Wiggled DCS/DCC switch just in case, no go. Finally did factory reset, then had to re-add engine, but again had to move to isolated track for TIU to find. Ran engine for awhile, until it bumped over a turnout, and right back to buzzing start up scenario. Also get alot of Check Track messages even with just cleaned track.
Wondered if this is peculiar to PS3 engines? Track is clean, Ross turnouts are perfect, and no other PS1 or PS2 engines are sensitive to momentary voltage loss. I thought the PS3 caps would hold up the board to write data into memory but its like this isn't happening unless doing a shutdown. Know the number board LEDs stay on when I do an emergency TIU shutdown which should (I think) be the same as a voltage loss.
Nice engine, but it might not see much run time, but this would be my loss.
