When it comes to pre & post war Lionel, I’ve got over 50 years of experience.  With MTH, I’m like the new kid on the block.  But, I end up owning some MTH when I occasionally buy a collection, so I’m trying to learn some basics.
Question:  As with PS-1 & PS-2, where simply testing those locos without first charging or replacing the internal batteries can lead to huge electronic problems, is it the same for PS-3 models?  Or, can one simply take a PS-3 model that has been sitting unused for a few years and test it with a conventional type transformer, without fear of frying some electronics?

Thanks,

Allen Drucker

One other thing I have found & told & do is add inline automotive fuse holder and 2 1/2 amp fast blow fuse inline between track & conventional transformer base post I purchased on line  from Radio Shack . I have been AF operator ,collector 50 plus years MTH operator25 plus years .I have used AF dual handle transformer AC as you most likely use Lionel conventional AC this gives better protection than none to newer electronics but not as good I am told as newer transformers. I also use MTH Z40000.
