Legacy locomotive lights typically default to "on", I don't think the software will make a difference.  The lighting feature buttons allow you to turn certain lights of after the loco is powered up but they will come back on the next time the loco is shut off and repowered, otherwise the conventional operator could be "left in the dark". I think you may have a loose connection within the loco of some sort. A rough shipment can jar the plugs loose in the boards

Uhh... not true.  I changed the ditch light settings using the extended ALT-2 menu, and they stayed at the new setting through a power cycle.  Also, I turned off the headlight and did a power cycle, that also was off when I powered on.  This is using a 6-28303 SD-80, a 2009 locomotive.  I doubt they've removed features since.

I don't dispute the fact that it may be a loose connection, but no sense taking things apart until you check the simple stuff.

BTW Allan, hold the ALT2 key down for three seconds and the alternate lighting options appear.

I stand corrected John, my "first gen" legacy m1b does not hold the auxillary lighting settings, just tried my newer berk and it does. Having said that, these locos have icons for the auxillary lighting features on the main screen. Marker lights of course and the m1b has a doghouse icon.

If the numberboards are turned off would a hard reset turn them back on?

I wasn't really implying that Allan take it apart, if under warranty sending it back may be a better option.

I'll keep an eye on this thread, I'm curious to see if the new software will fix it.

Just don't call me a punk John!
