Both MTH and Lionel are releasing cool Halloween steam engines this year.  Sure would be nice to have matching passenger cars.  Wonder if either company has given this any thought.  Together with a steamer they'd make a neat train to run for a month or so.

I am getting ready to put together a Halloween themed layout/display for this year.  I have the new mikado on order, a grim reaper gateman and a couple cars so far. I plan to incorporate a lego haunted house, and a fake boar's head skull as a tunnel portal.

Some passenger cars would be nice.  For right now I am thinking about repainting a caboose and maybe doctoring up some in expensive freight cars to round things out.

There was a thread on here, I think it was last year about a nice Halloween layout someone built.  I have searched for the thread to no avail. It will be fun to see how many of us dip our toes into the Halloween pool this year.

I think the trick with Halloween flavored passenger cars will be making them stand out with more than just an orange and black paint job.  Some creepy inserts or lighting might help, after all they will need to look good in low light!

Was beginning to wonder if I was the only one interested.  Glad that isn't the case. Love the idea of creepy inserts or figures, low lighting like maybe something resembling a black light, and sound.  Hope they'd be Railking 60' though. I don't have room for larger.  I've got both the Crusader and Mikado on order so they need to get in gear quickly - I know that won't happen.

Lionel came out with a Hallow's Eve steam engine 6-18745 & two 2 packs passenger cars 6-35219 & 6-35256 in their Ready to Run 2012 catalog. Pretty sure someone can post some pics.

Included in my collection above. 2nd & 3rd photos. Cars are awesome. They have unique siliouttes and orange blinking lights. The engine runs strong as well. It's the same as the old Harry Potter set, but in better running condition for some reason.

Well the good thing is if they don't put anything in the silhouette you can always glue things to the roof like spiders or a skeleton or something

Your engine looks good on the tracks.  Are the sounds Halloween specific?  Thank you.

The horn and whistle or specific to a steamer however the passenger station sounds are all Halloween and I actually like come a little better than the diesel sounds I have a short video on my phone that recorded all the sounds when I tested it however I couldn't figure out how to upload it onto the Forum from my phone. It kept erroring out

Personally, I really like Halloween trains.  While Lionel and MTH make great looking cars, my budget limits me to repurposing cheap cars.  Someday I'll get around to experimenting with printing my own decals to spruce up my Halloween Train.  I always look forward to the Halloween threads each year where folks show what they've come up with.

Those 2012 cars and locomotive were made from the Harry Potter tooling. Nice, but decisively British (a Hall class steamer and Mark I cars). I'm hoping for something in American heavyweights, like the baby Madisons. I'd consider a repaint but would prefer ones decorated to match the pending Lionel release.

I struggled with this Lionel version, and the MTH version. I went with MTH for the PS3.
