Recently purchased an 30-5116-1 PS3 GG1 (Railking). I operate conventionally using Z-1000 or Z-500 transformers.
A few odd things I've noticed.
1) Not really "new" but this engine seems to start up with sound without waiting the usual 30 seconds as PS3 is designed to do. I have this issue occasionally but this seems to do so regularly. My LHS sees this on occasion when demo-ing locos, etc. Is there any known issue with this and a fix? If killing the power before the 30 second wait, the engine comes back in neutral, silent until charged up.
2) After powering off and sounds shut off, if I reapply power, sometimes the engine does nothing. Sits dead silent with no life. Recycling power several times does nothing or may get the engine to run dark and silent. Turning power off and letting it sit with no power for several seconds - about 30 maybe and reapplying power will usually get it to run properly. Is this just a matter of the boards getting "confused" and needing to be powered off for several seconds then power reapplied? Seems to happen most if I accidentally trigger the PFA when wanting to open the couplers. I shut it off, let it sit and once it shuts down I immediately reapply power. That is when it "plays dead". I will then have to shut it off for 30 seconds or so to "reset" the boards.
