I have searched the archives and believe that I would best install the ERR cruise commander "M" in my Lionel 6-28066 B&OPresident Harrison steam engine to eliminate the dreaded early Odyssey "lurch". I also read that there is a ceramic magnetic ring of sorts on the flywheel that is prone to shattering. Would I be correct in assuming that I should also remove this ring when I install the "M"?thanks for any guidance on this.

Thanks for the feedback.

John, no, I don't have the Legacy system just the old TMCC and Cab 1. Now that you mention it, I think I read that the lurch was not an issue with the Cab 2/Legacy system.

Is that correct?

Pete- even if the ring is not cracked, isn't it prone to shattering and best removed if installing the ERR "M"?

Thanks,

Mack

I have seen a few broken magnets but am not aware they shatter. I am a believer if its not broke don't fix it. I have found that if you watch the TMCC base for the first blink then wait before turning the red knob for the engine to start you can minimize or eliminate the lurch. The lurch is caused by inputting too many steps bfore the engine has a chance to respond. Try it.

Yep, I had a desert storm SD-40 that the ring shattered, as it shattered the pieces shorted the motor driver board. It was like hitting the self destruct button.
