Hope to make it to YORK soon
Jim, thank you for all of your efforts organizing the York Meet Thursday night gathering for us OGR forumites. It is truly appreciated!
I'm looking forward to "Thursday At Quaker's" !
Folks,
The numbers are the size of a wedding - you have 12 ~ 18 months to plan and have a head count. Jim and the OGR staff do the best they can with the resources they have. Agreed, dinner was a little less than stellar but the OGR staff did not cause the problem. I listen to some of them talk to the floor manager, they were not happy, some of them did not get served until well into the night.
Let's not blast these folks. They due the best job - 200 + people storming a small facility at one time is a challenge even though they knew we were heading their way.
Let's get a grip on this and let the Jim and OGR staff figure it out. Looks like they have had productive meetings, communicate the needs, set expectations and have been working to find a place that can handle the crowd.
Thanks for all your hard work, Jim. Looking forward to a Quaker State Experience. Once again, I will attempt an attendance at York......fingers crossed
Hey Y'Oil have a good time . . .
One for oil, Oil for one
"One for oil, Oil for one"
But don't get too oiled up!
But don't get too oiled up!
Especially if you drive to the restaurant!
OK Guys this is what Allen Miller posted last April about Logan's Steakhouse
"Yes, I believe they would reserve a separate dining area in the place. There are other possibilities as well, including Quaker Steak & Lube (they have already confirmed that they could handle us) and several other candidates. All that's certain at this point is that Ruby Tuesday's is out."
Lets just wait and see.
Jim D.
The "AGHR Contingent" left Tuesdays and went to Quaker Steak and we had a great time. The OGR staff showed up a little later. We liked the food, the service and the atmosphere, especially the Corvette with flat-screen T-Tops.
Careful, GRJ, you're on a slippery slope.
Does Quaker Steak have a meeting room, or will we still be in separate booths?
Looks like a fun place. Hopefully, the weather will hold to enjoy the outdoors dining space.
QS&L it is! How much for the 10w40 platter?
the ball room is nice, but the food is TERRIBLE!!!!!!
Are you commenting on a particular ballroom? Or to these type of facilities in general?
I can attest firsthand to the fact that there's allot of bad banquet food out there. The unifying element between good and bad is cost. The cost of food, add tax and gratuity, I would be surprised if you could get the job done for under $50.00 per. One big issue is that someone would have to be in charge of the event. Negotiate with the venue, solicit attendees and collect payments, cut checks, and so on, and so on. Frankly, it's probably too late to secure a venue for this fall anyway. Additionally, all this stuff requires lots of time and planning that could quite easily take the fun out of it and spoil the event.
I am talking about this place, the food is catered by the same people that catered the DCS meeting when it was at the Red Rose. terrible food, the cake was even bad. not to mention that it was very overpriced also.
Bil, knowing you, you'll want the 20w-50 platter. It has scrapple for extra viscosity. There is a surcharge if you want synthetic scrapple.

Wow, are you ever in the minority!

Yeah, I guess $10 or so for dinner may seem like a lot of money to some people.
When you're used to the Automat.

looking forward to it!

I have been coming to the York show since 1998 and have never had the opportunity to come to the Thursday gatherings. This year I am going to make it.

$10 for dinner is cheap, and so was the quality of the food. you get what you pay for. take a poll Barry and see who is in the minority, don't ASSUME
don't ASSUME
I don't have to. I take a poll every meeting. I also get a headcount on meals served, which is a large percentage of the headcount.
By the way, I don't remember seeing you on a list of attendees for any meeting. So, if you were never there for a meeting, how would you know anything about the food service?
Sounds like someone is trying to re-invent the old AOL Get-Togethers that we had at the Viking Hall, 2 blocks off the fairgrounds. Keep discussing this, guys. You'll eventually get there.

Open to anybody who enjoys O gauge railroading--forum members, magazine subscribers, digital subscribers, advertisers, manufacturers, or just the curious.
You heard about it, you're invited.
I was there with the AGHR gang, the food was very good, hot, and plenty of it to fill you up. Nice place. I saw this place on one of the food channels they were pushing Hot wings I think, it originated in Pittsburg I believe if memory serves me right.

Excellent. Thanks! I plan on being there!

Close enough - the original is located in Sharon, PA, just about an hour North of Pittsburgh, and only 15 miles or so from forum sponsor Mercer Junction.

I have been to every meeting for the past 5 years, only ate there the first time.

You know it's so easy to take potshots at something. I REALLY APPRECIATE the DCS dinners and have been to a lot of them. I've learned a lot. I don't go for the food.
I don't go to ANY York meeting because I want a "fine cuisine experience". I appreciate decent service and good food, but this whole thing isn't about the food. It's about the companionship and interchange of information. And I really appreciate the effort that Barry and some others put into doing this.
Gerry
How did this morph from talking about the OGR Thursday Night get-together to the DCS dinner?
If anyone goes to York for the fine cuisine, they are very confused about what constitutes fine dining.
So, with all the fine dining mentioned in these posts - has a place been nailed down?
Quaker Steak & Lube I believe, that's what was last stated by Allan.

I could not agree more......well said, Gerry!

Correct: "Thursday Lube" will be at Quaker Steak & Lube, which is in the former TGI Fridays location and just across the street from April's ill-fated Ruby Tuesday get-together
We can only hope that we get better service.
FWIW, I guess I was one of the lucky ones, I got my food in a reasonable amount of time. It wasn't fast, but at least it came.
