Folks,

The numbers are the size of a wedding - you have 12 ~ 18 months to plan and have a head count. Jim and the OGR staff do the best they can with the resources they have. Agreed, dinner was a little less than stellar but the OGR staff did not cause the problem. I listen to some of them talk to the floor manager, they were not happy, some of them did not get served until well into the night.

Let's not blast these folks. They due the best job - 200 + people storming a small facility at one time is a challenge even though they knew we were heading their way.

Let's get a grip on this and let the Jim and OGR staff figure it out. Looks like they have had productive meetings, communicate the needs, set expectations and have been working to find a place that can handle the crowd.

"Yes, I believe they would reserve a separate dining area in the place. There are other possibilities as well, including Quaker Steak & Lube (they have already confirmed that they could handle us) and several other candidates. All that's certain at this point is that Ruby Tuesday's is out."

Lets just wait and see.

The "AGHR Contingent" left Tuesdays and went to Quaker Steak and we had a great time. The OGR staff showed up a little later. We liked the food, the service and the atmosphere, especially the Corvette with flat-screen T-Tops.

Are you commenting on a particular ballroom? Or to these type of facilities in general?

I can attest firsthand to the fact that there's allot of bad banquet food out there. The unifying element between good and bad is cost. The cost of food, add tax and gratuity, I would be surprised if you could get the job done for under $50.00 per. One big issue is that someone would have to be in charge of the event. Negotiate with the venue, solicit attendees and collect payments, cut checks, and so on, and so on. Frankly, it's probably too late to secure a venue for this fall anyway. Additionally, all this stuff requires lots of time and planning that could quite easily take the fun out of it and spoil the event.

I am talking about this place, the food is catered by the same people that catered the DCS meeting when it was at the Red Rose. terrible food, the cake was even bad. not to mention that it was very overpriced also.

Wow, are you ever in the minority!

Yeah, I guess $10 or so for dinner may seem like a lot of money to some people.

$10 for dinner is cheap, and so was the quality of the food. you get what you pay for. take a poll Barry and see who is in the minority, don't ASSUME

don't ASSUME

I don't have to. I take a poll every meeting. I also get a headcount on meals served, which is a large percentage of the headcount.

By the way, I don't remember seeing you on a list of attendees for any meeting. So, if you were never there for a meeting, how would you know anything about the food service?

I have been to every meeting for the past 5 years, only ate there the first time.

You know it's so easy to take potshots at something. I REALLY APPRECIATE the DCS dinners and have been to a lot of them. I've learned a lot. I don't go for the food.

I don't go to ANY York meeting because I want a "fine cuisine experience". I appreciate decent service and good food, but this whole thing isn't about the food. It's about the companionship and interchange of information. And I really appreciate the effort that Barry and some others put into doing this.
