I happen to be enamored by steam and smoke coming from weird places. There have been replies in other recent posts showing whistle steam, the new Lionel Vision Line Niagara (steam coming out of numerous different places), a prior Vision Line steam engine with steam coming out of the sides of the tender, and someone even mentioned there are oil tank cars that have smoke and/or steam that are crowd pleasers.

I believe most of the products with steam coming out of weird places are state of the art, very expensive, and unaffordable for many of us, so I thought it would be fun for us to focus on this subject in this post and see and hear videos of these weird steam and smoke products in action on our home layouts and train club layouts.

Also, it would be great  to know where and when Forum members can see these weird steam products in person.

If I may post the fine work of  forum member Rich Batissta, it doesn't get any better than this:

Rick, those steam engines are breathtaking. That may be the best train video I have ever seen. The name Batista rings a bell; maybe his layouts have been featured in the 2 top O Gauge train magazines (one of them is OGR), and did he have a fire and subsequently re-build his layout?

Do you know if those special steam effects like whistle steam have been made for any steam engines that can navigate 031 curves? I highly doubt it?

Also, is it challenging to properly apply the smoke fluid and properly maintain the engine so the special steam effects continue to operate well?

Has any steam engine with special steam effects been made that not only navigates 031 curves but is also under $500? Or same question and is it under $1,000? I highly doubt it.

Thanks si much, Rick, for sharing this video with us.

Why yes, O-31 steam engines with whistle steam do exist for under $1000, not under $500 though :/

There's a Lionmaster Big Boy #4011: 6-11208

There's also a T-1: 6-11207

The A-Class: 6-82206

And all of those new Lionmaster Challengers that came out about a year ago. Out of all these my personal favorite is the 4011, but that may be because it was my dream engine for quite some time, sadly I've tried to move towards more scale, that and the fact that I never see it around, at least not for a price I can ever afford. Anyways hope this helps.

Are you sure on these being able to handle O31 curves? I have the Lionmaster Challenger and even though Lionel says O31 is OK the engine seems to rub and is otherwise stressed trying to negotiate my inner O31 loop.
