Write down the targeted locomotives that you want spares on. Some are the same part numbers. Some are not.
If you can wait until Nov 4, 5, and 6th they'll be half price. This is the weekend of the Lionel Open House.
MARTYE , I can wait , i am not in a big hurry ,if i need one before that time i will just order what i need ,mean while as j daddy suggested i will see what difference there is in the part numbers in the different engines i have, to see what i have to order, assuming i can find the parts list on the line web site .

Marty,
Do you have it from a good source they will be offering the 50% off parts sale?
The year previous, they did not have it....

The parts sale is part of their open house. It is announced on Lionel's web site.
They did have the sale last year too. I purchased some parts.
As far as waiting goes: just be aware that Lionel does run out of parts, and also clears stuff out from time to time.
One year I compiled a list of parts I wanted to order during the sale. Turned out that a number of them were out of stock when the sale started. Oh well.............

Well I don't know where you got that from. Last year during the open house I got my parts at 50% off. Got the board for my TMCC crane, $100 board for $50. Plus a bunch of other odds and ends. All at 50% of normal cost. I don't see any reason they won't do it again.
I too purchased boards for half off the original price. I will again wait for the sale in November.

Last year yes... I have been purchasing must needed parts every year... the year previous to that they took a year and half sabbatical.
I believe they used to have the sale in late June before when they were in Ohio.
Today i was trying to make a list of which resisters & fan motors i need for the engines i have ,so far most of them use the same resisters & fan motors ,there are several engines that i can't seem to get the part numbers for , the first one is : Norfolk Suthern Heritage 6-28334 ,i looked up the parts list & it doesn' show any resister or fan motor ,the second engine is a gp7 #6-28573 ,when i put that number in it brings up the orange module ,nothing else ,how can find the part numbers for these engines ?, i am stumped .
Here is the Legacy Polar RR parts explosion. They should be the same but maybe a call to Lionel will confirm.
The NS parts show only the full unit. I suspect if you are on the phone about the GP7 they could give you that info too.
MARTYE I was looking at the parts list & # 73 shows the smoke unit ,it doesn't list the motor separately ,do you have to replace the whole unit if the motor went bad ?
You would have to check with Lionel. They should be able to tell you. It might take a phone call or an email. They should sell it separately. I suspect it's a universal motor but better check with them to play it safe.
Send an email to talktous@lionel.com with the Lionel item number 6-XXXXX, and a list of items you want. They will research and get back to you. In many cases they don't list all the parts. They respond quickly and if they have changed the part number, which has happened, from a previously build product they can cross reference them for you.
Don't guess - send them an email.
PSU1980 ,Thanks forthe e-mail link to lionel i will give that a try, Martye ,had also said to check with lionel ,i will try & do that today i don't need these parts right now ,i just want to have them handy if & when i do need them ,i will let you know how i make out .
I have received a quick response from lionel ,on 6-28254 ,they are saying that they only have the complete smoke unit available ,i don't have a lot of experience doing smoke repairs ,but i have had the shell off of this engine before & i think that the motor can be replaced just buy it's self ,on another of my engines they sent me a picture of the whole smoke unit & they said it is the only thing they have available for that engine ,well i took the shell off of that engine for the first time today ,& i don't see why i can't change just the smoke motor buy itself ,i also noticed that the batting was burnt & it was sticking to the resister ,i cleaned the resister,& replaced the batting & it smokes really good. The resister i saw was different than the other ones i have replaced before ,this one was held on with 2 screws ,has anyone see these before ?, & where would i get one like it ?,i forgot to get the number that was on the board that the resister was attached to ,i took 2 photos ,but the glare from the light blocks the view .
