MTH RD, given your position, your opinion is worth more than 2 cents.
What is disturbing is MTH's stated position to phase out the remote. Some of us like running trains, many at once, on the same and intersecting routes. I, and many others, find it easier to use the remote than slide screens around to find where the desired action may be found. Given that the remote exists, I doubt much expense would be required to keep it in production. I am sure that unavailable components probably have substitutes.
If I ran one train at a time, or two trains on non-interconnecting loops, maybe I'd prefer the app. But I rarely do that.
My 12-year-old grandson, who has his own MTH DCS layout, loves to come and run mine. I got him to try the app, on a 7" tablet. He couldn't wait to get back to the remote.
