Thanks! I love these!
Great post Peter....just a couple of months ago I watched this very episode on our local television channel....
Thanks,
Alan
Thanks for posting this, it brought back some good memories.

I remember when this originally aired. I loved it then and it was a lot of fun to watch it again. Thanks for posting.

I've seen that one a few times. Always brings a smile to my face.
That was excellent. I'd heard of Ozzie & Harriett but until tonight had never watched them. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and the commercials were great too.
Thanks for posting.

There was something special and entertaining about those old school commercials. Can't put my finger on it. I guess it might be an older form of marketing/promotion.
I remember it from when I was a kid. Funny how my memory really didn't have most of it correctly. Lotta memories there.
Thanks, this was great!
Thank you!
What a different time.
Thanks for posting Peter. I wonder how many times this episodes story line is played out today?
That was great!
Little did we know when we watched that when we were kids we would be looking at ourselves in the future.
Notice how few commercials there were.

Peter,
Your post made my morning !

Always enjoy seeing these on the web.
My family did not get TV until 1960 so all this is new to me....sorta.
I really like the one with G.Cooper and D. Kerr too.
Harriet Nelson the Astaire/Rogers film follow the Fleet 1936. She was a wild little girl started smoking at age 13

The Nelson House today. The series was shot inside the house.
2245..to the rescue! Wonder what set was $120. in the '54 catalog? Didja catch that cameo of the Thunderbird ?
People and Television had "class" in those days, unlike today.
This was probably one of their best episodes. The writers were right on target, and the result was very funny.
And VALUES.
Our family watched Ozzie and Harriet every week without fail but I do not remember that episode. I noticed they did not keep their boxes! That is how trains were back in those days, just toys to be used. Notice there was no talk of collectability. The episode also showed how quickly you can tire of watching the train just go in a circle. You need more stuff!
Thank you, Peter, for sharing this. I was watching the episode last night on my iPad and my wife came into the room and asked me what I was watching. She sat down and watched the whole episode with me. I also enjoyed the Aunt Jemima and Hotpoint commercials.
If you read the comments on the YouTube site, someone points out that the "Happy Hotpoint" pixie in the commercial at the very end is a young Mary Tyler Moore. So I googled it and surenuf', it is MTM
One of my favorites, I didn't know it made it to youtube. That's great, thanks Peter.
Thanks for posting, Peter

Wonder what set was $120. in the '54 catalog?
I believe Harriett corrected Ozzie when she said that the $120 set he was looking at in the 1954 Lionel Catalog was set #20 for $100. The writers obviously took some liberty with the details as there was no $10 wind-up set, no set #20 and the highest priced set was $89.50 (for set #2234W, a 2353 Santa Fe F-3 AA with 4 aluminum passenger cars). But even $89.50 was a lot of money in those days. Details, details!
Anyway, that was a great episode and many thanks to Peter for positing. I used to watch that show as a kid and like "pennsydave" said I don’t remember ever seeing that episode either. And as Ozzie said in his introduction, it was a rerun from a previous season so it played at least twice! I should have certainly remembered that one. I don’t know how I missed it? Or maybe it’s my declining memory!

Do you all know of any other episodes from shows of the 50s and 60s that have model trains in them?
I watched the ozzie and Harriet one 3x already! It's awesome.

Yes, there is a Leave it to Beaver episode in which June decides to give Beaver's long-neglected Lionel trains to a deserving kid. As Beaver starts to box- up his trains he realizes how much he likes them and wants to keep them. I am not sure which episode or season this is from; Netflix has the episodes available to stream or you can get the DVDs.
there is another LITB episode where Wally dates a girl whose father has a really neat Am Flyer layout and she starts to think the boys in her house are not there for her but for the trains. And she would be right.
chipset......I know of a Leave It to Beaver Episode......it is probably post 1959 because the train contains a 6464 Alaska boxcar.

Peter, I am flattered to have my mind compared to yours! Your mind is great; mine.....not so much
Post War in it's correct element ! What could be better? Stop and think about what you could still see and do in 12" to the foot when this was made.
Thanks it was a lot of fun to watch.
That was great. For some reason now I'm hungry for pancakes.
Thanks for posting this Peter. I have just spent a very enjoyable half hour watching it.
We grew up watching the Nelsons. I enjoyed the fact that Ozzie perused the Lionel 1954 catalog at the hobby shop. My first set is in it.
When I was a little boy Ozzie and Harriet was my favorite show. I always enjoyed Thorny their next door neighbor. As this episode clearly showed he was a real piece of work but a great neighbor. Adults and post-war Lionels-perfect together.
Thorny was played by Don DeFore who later played Mr. "B" ( George Baxter ) in the TV series "Hazel". I always enjoyed him..
Alan
Peter,
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Ya to love the Nelsons, America at its very best, trains and all.
PCRR/Dave
Thanks! Hunting down LITB now!
And did I mention all you folks who grew up in the 50's are GOLDEN!
Peter,
You just made my day, great memories. Thank you for posting this
