I've never been able to get the pan commands to work on our GN box cab set.  The softkeys show up, but pressing them doesn't change anything.  They stay in automatic mode, regardless.  Tried it all; feature reset, factory reset, deleting and then re-adding the locomotive ... notda.  Can't make it go to manual mode for rear and front up or down either.  What's the secret?  I worked once upon a time, then when I was having trouble addressing the set and deleted it from DCS and re-added it, they quit.

I just finished work on a FF-1.  First, does it have a PAN on off switch on the engine?  If so, it must be in the on position.

Second, when running in DCS the display is not intuitive at first.  When you select the PAN via soft key what does the display state?  If it shows MAN with no F or R with arrows.  The engine is in AUTO.

So press the S3 key under AUTO.  Now the display should show Fs and Rs with AUTO above the S3 key.

If you press the S1,2 or S4,5 the appropriate Pantograph should do what the arrow shows.

If you press the Auto S3 button, you will go back to auto and the only command showing will be MAN above S3.

Make sure the pantographs are unlocked.

I also found that Feature and factory reset does not change the setting.  I am thinking you have yours set to AUTO.

I am sure all this is in Barry's book and the Instruction Manual.   G

Check everything George outlined.  If you have no luck, open the engine and pull the plug out of the pan control board and reseat it.  If everything fails, I would be looking at the pan control board.  I have several GG-1 locomotives and buy the pan boards often.

One reach, do you have another remote?  I ran into your situation a long time ago and everything worked with another remote.  The problem remote worked everything but the pans.  I opened it up and reseated the transceiver board and I was good to go.

When it's running the pans go up and down with direction change, the one for the direction staying up.  It's when I try to control them manually I don't seem to be able to get them to respond.  I printed of GGG info and will try it again.  I need to be able to get them both down to get into the Electric Shop building. :-(

I'll try it with a different remote ... thanks GGG and Marty!
